Losing Papou

About Us

When my father suddenly died of a heart attack my family was not only in shock, but heartbroken.  It was extremely difficult for me personally, but even more so as the mother of three children.  I was especially worried about the effect my Dad's death would have on my oldest son Jonathan.  He was six at the time and was very close to his Papou (Grandfather in Greek).

I wanted to make sure that my husband and I did our best to explain the realities of death and the feelings surrounding the death of a loved one.  We encouraged his questions and did our best to explain truthfully, while still making him feel safe.  We made sure to listen to his every word,
showering him with the love and support we knew would help him cope.

This deeply personal experience as a mother is what inspired me to write this book. I hope that I might help in some small way to ease the pain for your child and help you to create a loving and touching outlook on Heaven.  Many of the ideas and quotes were taken from my children.

My heart goes out to you and yours,

Lainie Garrick
